A federal appeals court panel today ordered a judge in Newark to free a NJ playboy who spent more than 20 years in prison for two murders he didn’t commit.
Three U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals judges, who overturned the murder conviction earlier this month, said Richard Kamienski should go free.
U.S. District Court Judge Stanley Chesler is expected to sign the order at 1 p.m. Monday.
Once he does, Kamienski will remain free without bail while the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office awaits a ruling from the remaining judges on the panel to either support their fellow jurists’ decision or — in what would be an extremely rare move — reject it.
