The sirens sounded loud and clear along the waterfront at today.
Don’t know whether they worked elsewhere, but the usual fire signal at the River Road firehouse near the NY Waterways ferry terminal sounded at noon — although a few moms and their little ones in the pool at our condo didn’t even seem to notice.
Then came the “real” deal: a high-pitched wail that pierced the air for about 20 seconds at 12:10.
And the swimmers splashed on.
Had it been a real emergency….?
Guess I’d have put my head between my legs and kiss my butt goodbye.
