Consider youself warned: Four jet fighter planes will roar up the Hudson River at extremely low altitudes this morning as part of Fleet Week festivities. Those helicopters we along the “North River” hear regularly are New Age music compared to the AC/DC roar of these babies.
The 11:45 a.m. flyover by F-18 Hornets will begin at the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and continue north to the George Washington Bridge.
Of course, it’s a sensitive topic here fast by the Gold Coast, where several area residents and employees ran for their lives after a jet used for Air Force One and two F-16 fighter planes buzzed the area for a photo opportunity last month.
This flyover is timed to coincide with the Parade of Ships, set to arrive around 10:30 this morning to kick off Fleet Week.
Little more than an hour later, the jets will come sweeping in at barely 1,000 feet.
That’s right: lower than many Manhattan skyscrapers.
